Hi All,

I have been hacked! Email everything seems to have gone so if you have received any 'dodgy' emails from me in bad english, they really were not from me and originated somewhere in China (we think!)
I'm hoping the last meeting went well and that the next is monday 7th July unless someone posts a comment to say otherwise.
I cannot be reached by email at the moment until this is all sorted out and we have improved our PC security.

The Bank holiday looms

We welcomed new member Ann Lane to the meeting on 21st. She is anxious to solve a knitting pattern problem. Several members puzzled over it & then decided that the pattern was at fault. She was reassured that it would be possible to complete the project. That's what meetings are all about.
Lots of knitting was done & lots of chatting too.
The next 2 meetings will be on 12th & 19th May as the two bank holidays will upset the month's schedule.

Last meeting we missed Cath & Michelle, who will unfortunately not be able to join us for a few weeks. We'll keep your seats warm.
Tracy feels she needs to get her teeth into a new big project & Enid & Jean are getting ever more adventurous with their felting bags. We think they should take orders!
We look forward to meeting again & looking at the progress we've made on some charity projects that several members have started. Our next meeting will be on Monday 21st April. See you then.

Change to the schedule - 31st March meeting!

Apologies for not attending last meeting - things conspired against me setting foot out of the door that evening but I hear you all had good evening from my 'sources'!
I also hear a good amount of knitting was undertaken and Jane bought in some patterns that had been given to her. A few of you have lightened Jenny's load of charity yarns and are undertaking projects - it will be lovely to see the results.
Nice to hear Tracy is back and I will contact Cath just to make sure all is well with her.

For those who could not make it, Jenny has another commitment on the first Monday of April and so we will meet on the last one in March instead so look forward to seeing you on 31st!

Last night was such a laugh with discussions on impossible fashions to the trials and tribulations of Jennys sock! ;-) and a heck of a lot of knitting done too.

Next meeting is a knit and chat night on 17th - Hope to see you all then!

Last nights meeting

Hello to two new members - Daphne and Elizabeths daughter (sorry, my limited brain cells have not retained her name though I was told twice!) and a warm welcome back to Ann!

It was the usual mix of knitting and nattering with dpn horror stories from Cath, some lovely FOs from Jane and Jan, beautiful books to peruse and a good deal of knitting done by all !

So, ten members in total last night with five regulars absent, things are on the up! (Look forward to seeing you next time Tracey, Kathy, Enid , Jean and Maureen)

Hope those of you with a long journey got home safely as it was an absolute pea-souper out there when we all left!

Socks galore !

Lots of sock knitting was the order of the day Monday night and a warm welcome back to Enid and Jean !
The trip to The Cheap shop is still on for this Saturday (16th)- meeting 8:30 at the Community Centre - Kathy sends her apologies, she has double-booked herself and Jane will let us know soon.

Next meeting is on 18th Feb - a leisurely knit and chat.

The first meeting of March on 3rd, we will continue with Socks (Turning the heel for those who are struggling!)

Mondays Meeting and plans for the future

We welcomed three new members Monday - Elizabeth, Jan and Kathleen!

Plans were made for forthcoming events as follows :-

Monday 4th February - Not only is this our next meeting but we are 'doing' socks. Those of you interested in getting started on this or are struggling with any aspect - come along with needles and yarn and we will get you going on the right track! If you are an accomplished sock-knitter or you've got other projects on the go, come along anyway for a cuppa and a chat.
I'm going along to see if Cath has tamed the dpns from monday night and I may just attempt a toe up sock (heaven knows I have plenty of sock yarn to experiment with!)

Saturday 16th February - Trip to The Cheap Shop, Tiptree. Meet outside the Braintree Community Centre, Victoria Road and we shall go en masse. I think the meet time was set for 8:30 but please, someone correct me if I am wrong. (I was busy chatting and not paying attention when the final details were agreed!).
For those of you who don't know, The Cheap shop is an Aladins cave of crafty bits and pieces (and other things besides) and is conveniently located close to The Tiptree Jam Factory which has a lovely tea shop (should we exhaust ourselves and need liquid resfreshment before the journey home!)

Monday night was great!
Thanks soo much to all of you who came along - old and potential new members alike!

Big thanks to Kerrie and Mandy for coming along with a mini yarn mountain for us to feast our eyes on !

Another thanks to Vicki and all the members of Knit One, Purl Fun from Chelmsford and Tiptree who came along too.

The evening was spent chatting, knitting, flicking through books, drinking tea and did I mention lots of chatting ??

Kerrie has kindly invited us across to her workshop near Dunmow for one of our next meetings - we are just in the process of setting a date.

I hope you all went away inspired to pick up your needles and I look forward to seeing some new faces at our next meeting on Monday 21st Jan !

Open Evening - 7th January 2008 !

We are having an open evening !

Posters are going up, the press is being contacted and we are putting the word out across the net !

Kerrie Allman (Of Hipknits / Yarn Forward magazine / Magknits - to name but a few of the strings on her bow!) will be with us with the latest copy of her magazine and a selection of her beautiful hand-dyed yarns for you to peruse and purchase.

Also Vicki from the Chelmsford group Knit One, Purl Fun will be with us, not only with some of her members but also a selection of sock yarns too.

We would love to see you all there !

Last Nights meeting - 6th Nov

A great meeting again and even more cozy now that we've moved upstairs to the comfy corner (it felt like a home from home just more yarny!)

we welcomed a new member, Joan and talked a while about the relaunch in January and possible changes to the meetings. We are also going to go 'fortnightly' and see how it goes as it was felt a month was a long time between meetings (though that did give me more of a chance of finishing something to bring to show! :-) )
A little knitting was undertaken but a lot of chat about the Knitting and Stitching show and lots of touching of purchased yarn and reading of new books and magazines was the call of the day.
Next time I intend bringing a camera so that we can have pictures of members (if they are happy to be on here, that is) and FOs.

November Meeting - Tuesday 6th

New Home for the group

This is the new home for all the latest news and information for the Braintree Knitting group.

For those of you who have stumbled upon our blog, we are a lively (and friendly) group of knitters of all ages and abilities who meet on the first monday of the month at Phillers Cafe (see the information to the right for a direct link to our hostess's website and location).

Meetings start at 7:30 and usually conclude sometime between 9:30 to 10:00. We park in the Sainsburys carpark and all leave at the same time to return to our cars to ensure everyone returns home safely.

Jenny, our hostess and fellow knitter opens the cafe exclusively for us and provides refreshments throughout the evening.

The cost per meeting is £2 per person which goes towards refreshments etc.

This blog will keep you up to date with what has happened at meetings and when the next meeting will be.
